Stefano Pilati says that pre-fall is all about what women respond to in Yves Saint Laurent, and doing more of it. What experience has taught him is that two of the fixed points of YSL’s appeal are still standing —the trench coat and the leopard-spot print—just as they were when Yves established them. Which explains why this collection is bookended by two coats: a reedition of the perfectly proportioned trench of 1972, bisected into menswear fabric at the top and sharp-edged black leather below, and an edge-to-edge, egg-shaped evening coat
